How do Swedes cope with heatwaves?

Dide Dijkers Karlstad
CNDS PhD student Dide Dijkers at Karlstad university wants to know
Throughout the summer, on 12 sunny days, Dide and colleagues collected data on a walking street in the center of Karlstad. Unobtrusive observations collected data on people´s behaviour in relation to sun and shade. A survey gathered information on pedestrians´ subjective thermal sensations, comfort and preferences. Simultaneously, the mobile weather station measured air temperature (Ta), globe temperature (Tg), wind speed (v), and relative humidity (RH). We are curiously awaiting the results from this interesting study!
Dide has also presented at the ESREL SRA-E conference in Stavanger this passed June, and published a peer reviewed conference article. It is about urban heat mitigation measures. Read the abstract here.
