CNDS in Sendai: Collaboration with IRIDeS, Tohoku University, and attendance at the World Bosai Forum

CNDS research fellow and board member, Mikael Granberg, visited Sendai, Japan, on the 5-13th of March 2025 to visit the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) at Tohoku University and take part in the World Bosai Forum, a global biennial forum on disaster risk reduction in Sendai, open to all citizens and specialists. The term “Bosai” covers everything you do before, during, and after disasters.

During his visit, Mikael Granberg met several researchers at IRIDeS at Tohoku University as part of an ongoing collaboration between CNDS and IRIDeS. The main purpose of the collaboration is to create research and research education in the fields disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change risk reduction and adaptation, and sustainable development from natural and social science perspectives.

He also presented research on tensions between growth and mitigating climate risks in urban climate change adaptation during a co-organized session on the World Bosai Forum. The session was titled “Resilient Cities and Communities”. CNDS and IRIDeS also co-organized the session “Climate Adaptation Disaster and Risk Management and Prevention”.
