Steffi Burchardt Appointed New Director of CNDS

Steffi Burchardt, a professor of Tectonics at Uppsala University’s Department of Earth Sciences, has been appointed as the new Director of the Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science, succeeding Giuliano Di Baldassarre

Steffi Burchardt, whose expertise lies in volcanology and the impact of living near active volcanoes, emphasized the growing importance of research into crises caused by natural events and climate change. She stressed the center’s role in enhancing society's preparedness for various crises. CNDS has become internationally recognized for its innovative research, notably under Di Baldassarre’s leadership, which emphasized the interconnectedness of nature and society.
