Giuliano Di Baldassarre, CNDS Director, together with Anastasiya Shyrokaya, CNDS PhD candidate, participated in the HEPEX workshop 2023 with their presentation "Forecasting socio-hydrological extremes"

Every year since 2025, HEPEX (Hydrologic Ensemble Prediction EXperiment) organized a workshop on hydrological forecasting where researchers, practitioners, operational forecasters, and other users have the opportunity present and discuss the latest developments in hydrological forecasting and applications in the water management sector.

The HEPEX workshop for 2023 took place on September 14th, and had Giuliano Di Baldassarre, CNDS Director, together with Anastasiya Shyrokaya, CNDS PhD candidate, presenting "Forecasting socio-hydrological extremes" at the headquarters of SMHI (the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) in Norrköping, Sweden.

In their presentation, they discussed how the interplay between technical, social and physical processes is influenced by the availability of climate services, with a focus on the benefits and unintended consequences of forecasting socio-hydrological extremes, i.e. floods and droughts, across spatial and temporal scales.
